My photographic roots lie in the documentary tradition. I began my photographic career working for various newspapers and magazines. And to this day I maintain a select list of editorial clients. However, in recent years I have begun to focus on the development of my own artistic practice where I strive to achieve a balance between documentary photography and art with a particular interest in how the photographic portrait functions as a documentary device.

I am particularly interested in people and what it is that makes them who they are. Driven by my own curiosity, with camera in hand, I am granted access to people I may not normally engage with. My working process is slow and intuitive. I spend many hours listening before even beginning to compose a frame. This act of listening allows for a subtle form of collaboration. The stories and details that are shared point me towards telling details that are often overlooked in casual encounters. Compelled by story, mine is ultimately a search for what connects us as members of a community, a country, and members of the human condition, expressed through photographs.

I am grateful for the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council.
